UGLA Unveils Scholarship at PCC
In 2023, Uptown Gay and Lesbian Alliance (UGLA) established their eponymous scholarship with the PCC Foundation, a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ students in their pursuit of higher education.
“It’s so important to support these students and their willingness to be who they are,” said UGLA President Carl Matthes.
The scholarship seeks to recognize the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ students and provide financial assistance to those dedicated to issues of social justice and the LGBTQ+ community in particular. For both UGLA and the PCC Foundation, it reaffirms the commitment to nurturing talent, empowering individuals, and cultivating an environment where diversity is not only celebrated but cherished.
In December, PCC student Remy Perez was awarded $500 for their academic diligence and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.
“The PCC Foundation has been wonderful to work with,” Carl said. “For a long time, ULGA has wanted to reach out to the broader community, and PCC has done an exceptional job of making itself accessible. We can’t wait to see the future impact of our scholarship at the College.”
